AN ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS’ DIFFICULTIES IN READING COMPREHENSION AT SMP NEGERI 32 PALEMBANG

This study investigates the difficulties encountered by ninth-grade students in reading comprehension. The sample of this research was 31 students of the ninth grade of SMP Negeri 32 Palembang. Employing a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected through questionnaires. that students ninth grade at SMP Negeri 32 Palembang had faced various difficulties in reading comprehension, namely: (a) Difficulty in understanding reading english texts, (b) Difficulty in understanding vocabulary, (c) Difficulty in understanding long English texts.

STUDENTS’ PERCEPTION OF USING SHORT ANIMATED VIDEO IN LISTENING NARRATIVE TEXT AT SMP NEGERI 32 PALEMBANG

The purpose of this study was to investigate students’ perceptions of using short animated videos in learning listening narrative texts at SMP Negeri 32 Palembang. The research focused on understanding how short animated videos influence students’ motivation, comprehension, and engagement in English listening activities. This study employed a mixed-method design, combining both quantitative and qualitative approaches. The participants were 30 ninth-grade students of SMP Negeri 32 Palembang in the academic year 2025/2026. The data were collected through a questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. The questionnaire consisted of 25 statements related to five aspects: interest and motivation, usefulness and effectiveness, ease of understanding, engagement and enjoyment, and technical quality. The interview was conducted with five students to gain deeper insights into their experiences. The quantitative results showed that the total mean score of students’ perceptions was 4.30, indicating a very positive response toward the use of short animated videos. The highest mean score was found in the aspect of interest and motivation (4.45), while the lowest was in ease of understanding (4.10). The qualitative findings supported the quantitative results, revealing that students felt more interested, motivated, and confident in learning listening through short animated videos. They also mentioned that visual cues, subtitles, and storytelling made it easier to understand the meaning and sequence of events in the narrative texts. However, a few students reported minor issues such as unclear pronunciation and fast speech in some videos experience.

THE USE OF GRAPHIC ORGANIZER IN TEACHING VOCABULARY AT SMP NEGERI 32 PALEMBANG

This study investigates how to use of graphic organizer in teaching vocabulary. In this research, the sample was 31 students of 9th grade at SMP Negeri 32 Palembang. Employing a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected through questionnaires. Here, the researcher explained that there are many ways to learn English, especially in vocabulary. For examples, the students can graphic organizer. The results of this reserach showed that: (a) 83.3% students like to learn English, (b) 90.3% students enjoyed and like to use graphic organizer.

An EXPLORATORY STUDY ON TEACHERS’ STRATEGIES AND STUDENTS’ PERCEPTIONS IN INTEGRATING TECHNOLOGY INTO ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING AT SMPN 32 PALEMBANG

The integration of technology into English language teaching has become increasingly significant in junior high schools. This exploratory study investigates both teachers’ strategies and students’ perceptions in the implementation of technology for English learning. Using a qualitative research design, data were collected through classroom observations, interviews with three English teachers, and questionnaires distributed to thirty eighth-grade students in an Indonesian junior high school. Findings reveal that teachers utilized diverse strategies such as multimedia presentations, online learning platforms, gamified mobile applications, and digital storytelling to enhance students’ language learning. Students demonstrated generally positive perceptions toward technology-assisted learning, particularly in terms of motivation, engagement, and self-directed practice. Nevertheless, several challenges were identified, including inadequate infrastructure, unstable internet connectivity, and insufficient teacher training. The study concludes that effective technology integration requires a balance between pedagogical creativity, institutional support, and digital literacy.
