EVALUASI RISIKO KECELAKAAN PEJALAN KAKI AKIBAT KECEPATAN KENDARAAN DI JALAN GAJAH MADA KOTA TEGAL
Abstract
This study aimed to assess factors affecting pedestrian safety on Jalan Gajah Mada, Tegal City, which is one of the main arterial roads with high traffic volumes. With the increasing population and number of vehicles, pedestrians are the most vulnerable group to traffic accidents. The research method applied was descriptive with a quantitative approach, involving field surveys to collect primary and secondary data on road geometric conditions, traffic flow volumes, vehicle speeds, and measurement of the risk of conflict between pedestrians and motor vehicles. The analysis showed that crossing facilities such as sidewalks and zebra crossings are still inadequate, contributing to the high risk of accidents. Most vehicles travelled at speeds below 50 km/h, but serious conflicts, especially with motorcycles, were still common. The study also found that road equipment deficiencies, such as unclear traffic signs and inadequate lighting, worsen pedestrian safety conditions. Based on these findings, improvements to road infrastructure, including the widening of sidewalks, provision of clearer zebra crossings, and increased driver awareness of the importance of reducing speed in pedestrian congested areas are recommended. It is expected that these measures can significantly improve pedestrian safety and comfort on Jalan Gajah Mada.
