Abstract
Transportation plays an essential role in supporting social and economic activities by facilitating the movement of people, goods, and services. However, conflicts often occur at level crossings between roadways and railway lines, which can significantly disrupt traffic performance. This study aims to analyze traffic performance at the JPL 47 Pasar Tempel level crossing and evaluate the impact of railway gate closures on traffic conditions.
The research employs a field survey and microscopic traffic simulation using PTV VISSIM. Data were collected through traffic volume surveys conducted for 12 hours per day over seven days, including vehicle classification and road geometric conditions. The collected data were processed and simulated to represent both existing conditions and different operational scenarios, namely when the railway gate is open and closed.
The simulation results show that when the gate is open, traffic conditions remain relatively stable with an average delay of 33.45 seconds per vehicle, an average queue length of 15.90 meters, and a Level of Service (LOS) of B–C. However, when the gate is closed, significant deterioration in traffic performance occurs, with an average delay of 483.3 seconds per vehicle, an average queue length of 84.41 meters, and a maximum queue length of 155.43 meters, resulting in LOS D–E.
